“Come, Now Is The Time to Worship”

SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSONS

One of God’s gifts can be when, on any given day, a hymn or worship song plays and repeats in our minds to remind, inspire and teach.

“Come, Now Is The Time to Worship,” written by Brian Doerksen was one of those songs.

“Come, now is the time to worship.

Come, now is the time to give your heart.

Come, just as you are, to worship.

Come, just as you are, before your God.

Come.”

The song shares four simple, but pithy Sunday School Lessons.

It invites us to ‘come now’ to worship.

Not later, it says “now is” the time.

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.”

We are also told in the song, “Now is the time to give your heart.”

Sometimes our hearts are heavy with regret, anger, or fear. Then we might withhold love from God and others and ourselves. Once again, this song inspires us to accept that right this minute is the best time to give our love to God and others.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.— Matthew 5:8 (KJV)

“Come, just as you are, before your God” further compels us to worship whether or not we are in the perfect situation, time, or place.

Some of us might think we need a special set of circumstances to be with God. Or we may think we’ve messed up too much to go to Him. In this worship song, we are urged to “Come. Come as you are before your God.” Now.

“Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” –Hebrews 4:16

The fourth lesson the lyrics state is, “The greatest treasure remains for those who choose you now.”

As the song suggests, there will come a time when all mankind will worship God and declare him the one and only God. But our believing in and choosing God now without delay is a treasure even if others are not followers and even when we have our own doubts, come anyway.

“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” –Romans 13:11 (KJV)

“One day every tongue will confess You are God.

One day every knee will bow.

Still the greatest treasure remains for those

Who gladly choose you now.

Oh, come. Oh, come. Oh, come.

Worship the Lord. Oh, come.

Come, come, come…Come, now is the time to worship.”

Backstory:

Brian Doerksen, a Canadian, reported, “When I was 15 years of age, I heard the Lord saying, ‘Give me your whole life to serve me. ‘ And I said, ‘Yes. ‘ Almost overnight my interest in sports was gone and in its place was this incredible hunger to serve God through music. He wrote this during a “low season” of his life and wanted to put in “come as you are before your God” to remind him to go to God regardless of circumstances.
