After the Rain

SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSONS       Inspiration for Living

We learn from contrast and gain much insight, from experiencing both the rain and the sunshine in our lives.

Did you know that rainbows form when sunlight shines through raindrops? The water acts as a prism, separating the white light into the colors of the rainbow.

This dynamic can be compared to our walking through life’s cloudy times and out the other side, changed by the experience.

Amid difficult transitions, we might feel alone and worry if we’ll get to the other side. We forget the wisdom of that old saw – April showers bring May flowers –cloudy times are useful.

Rainbows appear after the rain and new perspectives can be seen through the clouds of challenging times.

Through the rough spots, tough transitions, and the discomfort of not knowing how things might work out, many say they have learned lessons they would have gained no other way.

They celebrate greater clarity on what to keep and what to release –new directions emerge.

Gratitude abounds.

On the other side of difficult times, many also speak about having a greater appreciation for people and things that before they took for granted.

Some experience a profound change that brings a significant perceptual shift. They report feelings of great gratitude for a heightened awareness of colors and sounds and a fresh vitality in their lives.

Our hope and faith strengthen us.

Two pieces of inspiration come to mind after pondering the value of the rain and sunshine in our lives.

One is a scripture quote that reminds us that God is always with us –

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” – Deuteronomy 31:6, KJV.

The other is a song – “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Through cloudy times and always, may you keep “hope in your heart” – your faith and trust in God.

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark

At the end of a storm
There’s a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone

Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart

And you’ll never walk alone

You’ll never walk alone.
