Lesson 3 – Spiritual Insights Show Up in Many Ways.
Jim, I’ll call him, a family friend had, as he described, a “spiritual” experience when his mother passed.
His mom had not been lucid; but, right before transitioning, she opened her eyes. Fully present, she looked around at everyone, smiled, and then peacefully passed away.
A family member said that our mom’s passing wasn’t the spiritual experience others tell you about. He said the only insight for him was there was nothing to do. Nothing.
Trying to find the words to fit the experience, he repeated that there was simply nothing to be done.
Maybe he did have his own spiritual experience.
Understanding that we are not really in control of life is a huge insight for those of us who manage challenges by doing, making things happen, and wanting to fix things.
Whether we are experiencing a job change, going to work after staying home or staying home after working, or helping our children deal with the next big “thing” in their lives, frequently, we can do nothing to change the way things are.
So many realize through experiences such as these, that acceptance is a choice and so is resistance.
We are reminded that our “control” may be in being conscious about the choices we make. Even when we can take no direct action, we have the choice of our attitude about it.
The good news is insights and miracles that inspire, help us grow, and remind us of God’s Power and Love abound in life when we give ourselves permission to slow down and notice them.
They happen when we loosen our white knuckle grip of control on life caused by our insistence on doing things our way, in our time, and needing things to show up in our lives in a certain way.
They also happen when we are receptive, trust and love God, and have faith.
“(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)” – 2 Corinthians 5:7, KJV
